Kitchen & shared meals
Cooking, setting the table, eating together. The kitchen is often where the day comes together.
Volunteering in a spiritual community
Experience daily life at Open Sky House on the Rhine β with meditation, yoga, satsang and meaningful work in an international community.

You live here for a while, practise with us and help out. In the morning you sit together, during the day there is work, and in the evening there is time to meet again.
That includes shared meals, conversations in the kitchen, quiet in the house and simple help for one another. No one promises you a transformation. You step into a daily life that is already being lived.
Right on the Rhine in Leverkusen-Hitdorf, between Cologne and DΓΌsseldorf.
Daily schedule
You help for six hours a day. This work is Karma yoga. It calls for reliability, and for a willingness to take on the tasks that need doing.
You work together with the people in the house. What you actually do is agreed: according to what is needed, and according to what you can contribute.

You can arrive at any time of year, by arrangement. A bed in a shared room is free. Food is separate: a contribution of β¬90 a week. There are three vegetarian meals a day.
For people under 20, taking part is free. A single room is possible on request, for an extra charge.
On almost every weekend there is a seminar in the house. As a volunteer you can take part at a concession price.
Three examples from daily life together. The actual tasks are agreed according to what is needed and what you can bring.

The garden, the bees, and the many small jobs that keep a house going.

Painting walls, preparing rooms, giving something back to the house with your hands.

Yoga in the morning, and three shared meditations through the day. You sit together and let the room grow a little quieter. You do not need previous experience.

Satsang is a shared space for questions, conversation and self-enquiry β the simple question βWho am I?β. John David accompanies this exchange in the house. The practice here stands in the tradition of Ramana, Papaji and Osho. It belongs to life in the ashram.

In mantra singing you meet in the voice. Besides that there is time for conversation, for quiet, and for meeting one another in the house.
John David gives online satsang on most Tuesdays and sometimes satsang in the house on Fridays. After dinner on Wednesday we usually sing mantras together.
